It has certainly been a busy week for Chinese archaeologists. Not only is the Great Wall twice as long as previously estimated, 100 more soldiers joined the ranks of the terracotta army bringing the total to over 8,000, The Guardian's Tania Branigan reports.

The find comes as part of the newest round of excavation on China's terracotta army, an army of sculptures thought to protect Emperor Qinshihuang in the afterlife.

Beyond the soldier sculptures, scientists found weapons, drums and even chariots. The finds are especially remarkable, because they are "well preserved and colorfully painted."

Nevertheless, scientists believe that the findings are only a small part of a great treasure trove of terracotta relics still waiting to be unearthed.
